Descripción general

Yoshimi Matsubara, una mujer recién divorciada, lucha para obtener la custodia legal de su hija de cinco años. Su ex-marido no está dispuesto a facilitarle las cosas y saca a relucir su pasado de alucinaciones y tratamiento psiquiátrico. Madre e hija se mudan juntas a un pequeño apartamento, oscuro, triste y mohoso. La pequeña Ikuko comienza a ir a su nueva escuela y Yoshimi ha encontrado un nuevo trabajo. Pero la persistente presencia de agua sucia en el nuevo edificio parece el heraldo de los peores presagios. Agua sucia en el ascensor, en el techo del apartamento, bajo la puerta de uno de los pisos.... Además de la misteriosa presencia de una mochila roja que había pertenecido a una niña que desapareció dos años antes. Aunque Yoshimi lucha desesperadamente para encontrar en su interior fuerzas pensando en Ikuko, su terror va en aumento a medida que se acerca al descubrimiento de la conexión entre todos estos sucesos; y no está nada preparada para la verdad que le depara el futuro.
